Creativity requires discipline. You need to “fill the well” with creative inputs, “empty the well” through your unique creative process, and eliminate the distractions that pull you away from creating your best work.
This tarot spread will help you identify the sticking points in your creative process so you can bring out the work you are meant to create.
Reading the Tarot Spread
For the tarot spread, shuffle the cards any way you’d like and lay out four cards in the order shown in the image above.
CARD ONE: When it comes to creative input, what do I need to know?
This card will help you brainstorm ideas on how to “fill your well.” Think of the places you could go, the people you could meet, the sights, sounds, or sensual experiences you could have that will tumble together inside your brain and rub up against each other.
CARD TWO: When it comes to creative output, what do I need to know?
This card represents your unique creative process. Once you’ve filled your well and let the experiences percolate, your unique creative process will pull out the items and inspirations that are uniquely you to create something entirely new.
CARD THREE: When it comes to creativity, what is distracting me?
It is easy to be distracted by shiny, interesting things, especially when we are working on large, vulnerable, or challenging projects. Shiny and new always seems better than difficult and brutally real. This card represents the areas where you are getting off track.
CARD FOUR: What one step can I take to immediately eliminate this distraction?
This card represents the ONE action step you can take to regain your focus. Once you have identified this one step, take it immediately. Your creativity won’t wait. There will never be a better time and your work is too important to put off for an easier, better, or later time.
