Have you ever “lost yourself in your work”? That feeling of FLOW comes when you are in a focused Deep Work space, where time stops and the outside world seems to disappear. It might happen when you are writing, baking, gardening, playing with your kids, exercising, or doing a project at your job.

Deep Work is still work – sometimes HARD work – but it’s pleasant, vital, and necessary for you and the world. It’s when you are at your best. For more information about Deep Work, I highly recommend the book Deep Work by Cal Newport.

This tarot spread will help you brainstorm ideas for you to make finding your focus and accomplishing Deep Work as easy as possible.

Reading the Tarot Spread

For the tarot spread, shuffle the cards any way you’d like and lay out four cards in the order shown in the image above.

CARD ONE: Who can I ask for help, whether that’s advice, guidance, or support?
This card represents the people you can ask for help about focusing and Deep Work. Perhaps you need to readjust your work schedule with your boss, talk with your spouse about changing childcare routines, or reach out to someone you admire for advice. Get creative and use this card to come up with as many ideas for guidance and support as you can think of.

CARD TWO: What resources do I need to add?
This card represents the physical items or practical support you can add to your life so it is easier to get into the focused Deep Work mindset. Brainstorm as many ideas as you can.

CARD THREE: What do I need to eliminate?
This card represents the beliefs, thoughts, habits, things, interruptions, or problems you need to get rid of so that you can do your best work.

CARD FOUR: What else needs to change?
This card will help you brainstorm additional ideas for what needs to change in your environment, habits, routines, relationships, thoughts, choices, beliefs, or actions so that you can easily get into the focused Deep Work that you most need to do.
