When we feel overwhelmed by responsibilities and obligations, it can be easy to forget how much (and how little) we actually control.

When it comes down to it, we only have full control over our own thoughts, beliefs, words, choices, and actions. Nothing else.

That’s not much, but it’s enough to move the world.

We can change our thoughts, beliefs, words, choices, and actions. And when we make changes to one of those five things, we can radically alter the way people relate to us, or how we view the world, or what we accomplish in a day, or a week, or a year.

We don’t need to concern ourselves with changing or controlling the behavior of others because there is so much power in changing and controlling ourselves.

Very Important: In addition to completing this tarot spread, please consider this journal prompt…“What would happen in my own life if I only concerned myself with the things I can control (i.e. my thoughts, beliefs, words, choices, and actions)?”

Another way to phrase that question: “What would happen if I did not concern myself AT ALL with the thoughts, beliefs, words, choices, and actions of others and instead concentrated only on what I can control?”

Reading the Tarot Spread

For the tarot spread, shuffle the cards any way you’d like and lay out four (or six) cards in the order shown in the image above.

CARD ONE, CARD TWO, CARD THREE: Within Your Control
Cards One, Two, and Three represent the things in your life that are within your control. These will be limited to your own thoughts, beliefs, words, choices, and actions.

CARD FOUR: Outside Your Control
This card represents the influences in your life that are outside of your control. These are related to the thoughts, beliefs, words, choices, or actions of other people.

CARD FIVE, CARD SIX: Outside Your Control (optional cards)
Both Cards Five and Six are optional, if you need clarification or if you feel like there are many things happening in your life that are outside of your control.
